Waning Crescent Moon
Foothills Park: Back Side

Emme and Aurora were absent today.  The rest of us were blessed with a beautiful day of a little rain, ongoing changing clouds, Sun peeking out now and again and so, VERY MUCH FUN!!!
Truly, at least Bosch and I had so much fun with your treasures.  Jasper is growing up so much and maturing it is a delight to see him leave his younger self, stretch out with his body and expand his mind. His laugh is delightful and he has been so very playful.  He REALLY wanted to sit next to Natalie this morning and every time she moved her seat in the bus he would follow.  The two of them, well the three as they played with Bosch, in the bus played and played.    Anissa came with her curious, inquisitive self and wondering if she had grown too since I last saw her!!!!!!  She wondered this because it seems to me that Dahlia has not only matured but she seems to have grown about two inches. Is it possible???!!!  Nareya wrestled with the rain suit she had as it was grand at times but then she got warm and oh dear, needing to work with such things as wet ground, warmth, hot cold, yet she made it through with flying colors!!!  Though I don’t see her height change that much I do see her emotional world entering into the, soon to be,Wild and Wonderful fours.  Eric is actually quite steady with who is and who he has been. He continues to hold his family tradition  of asking “Why” at every opportunity :).  Therefore many profund and grand conversations took place.    Natalie, was delighted with her Cat raincoat and wondered if we noticed her new hair cut under the hood.  I actually did notice even with just a few strands coming out. They did look…SHORTER!
When we got to the park we went all the way to the end of it where the great Redwood Trees stand tall.  And, as suspected, they DID protect us from the rain of the day.  We sat underneath in our circle singing, eating and watching the rain come down with the sun shining on it without a drop upon our heads. Our story today was simply listening to all the sounds around us.  Later we were listening to many raucous Crows and wondering what they might be saying or feeling. Each child thought they were feeling different things: Angry, Sad, Happy and more.  They learned about, and had the opportunity to, eating the Better Bitter Dandelion leaves and NOT!!!! to eat the Poison Hemlock leaves.  Both of these plants are loving the water and growing well.
We took a long walk down the lawn to find a magickal bridge. Jasper led us over it and into another adventure. At first he was hesitant to be the leader but then he charged ahead with delight.  We explored the dry creek bed, laying on the grass and looking at the Deer.  If we layed flat we couldn’t see them at all and at different degrees of sitting and laying we could see certain aspects of them, or not.   We noticed the clouds and then their stomachs demanded that we go back for lunch to our packs. But, how do we get back?  We did some navigational awareness things such as looking back as we were walking to see what it would look like as we were walking back. We found our way and pulled out those lunches.
The rest of the day we had a lot of fun with throwing Redwood cones, finding hiding spots, tumbling, finding a beautiful Bird Kill and lot’s of feathers and so much more.
A truly wonderful and fun day.

We had an Alumni Mom and her youngest daughter come to play with us today.  They were both well received!
And, many of the children started the day with great gifts one to the other, of Valentines day love.  They delighted in it all and then, we went on the bus and off we went.  When we got to our destination all of a sudden, it got DARK!!  Jasper and Eric said “Turn on the lights!!”  I invited them to settle in just for a moment and see if their eyes could become like the Owl People.  Then I played a couple of dark  and light games with Jasper and Eric for them to really feel the difference and beauty of both.
We all finally got out of the bus and Bosch took them? Followed them? down the hill near us that Natalie,  Aurora, Jasper, and Dahlia flew down.  They also played with the small culvert that was there like it was a telephone; Bosch speaking through it on one side and others hearing his voice and seeing his face on the other side.
Nareya was quite cold and others seemed not only a bit cold but needing to move so we took the snack basket and made our way to our usual spot.   As we walked we heard the sound of……WATER!!!!, Yes, it is true, there was RUSHING water going down the creek bed and when we got to the place where we cross it, they needed to jump OVER the water!!!  Dahlia was her typical delightful self as she jumped over and got her shoes wet. She with such ease  said something like, ” oh well, they’ll dry” and kept going.   We went up and up, and on the trail until we found our spot. We dropped our things and they scattered to explore the most beautiful world of water.  Jasper was very excited to find his way back down to where we had gone last time we were there. There was a lot of water down in the pond so he was excited to find a way to get down there.  Later, he Bosch, Emme and Aurora went scouting around that area. Jasper came back to me and said, “see, my way didn’t work but we found another way!”  I asked if they would come back with stories of their adventure.   Aurora said they had stories but she would tell me later and, well, I never did hear the stories but I DID see pure delight on her face.
We had story, songs  and snack. The snack  was delicious gluten free choclate brownie cake which they wanted “MORE, MORE, MORE……”  But alas, I gave them one serving and then wanted to leave their tummies free for the great food that you send with them.
The songs were still inviting the rain to come and the story, the story was about When the Sun wouldn’t show it’s face and how all the animals and plants found shapes of hearts in the rocks and the plants to give to Sun to coaxe him out of his hiding along with Roosters singing to him.  We then all sang the song that the Animals and plants sang to him, You Are My Sunshine, My Only sunshine….
•Emme has really shifted and she is truly HERE at Tender Tracks. She was filled with exploration and excitement and most excited about finding the California Newts and Banana slugs that we found.
•Eric was having fun climbing, jumping and playing with the rocks. All the children really got into throwing the rocks into the water and then Bosch took a very , very large rock, and threw it down, down into the waters below. We heard it KERPLUNK and sqeeeled with delight.
• Aurora was having fun exploring with Bosch and playing with the rocks with the other children.  While driving home I learned a little bit of the Canadian Goose language( her stuffie was a Cannadian goose). When it squaks it means that it wants to eat.
•Dhalia was just having fun being in her bare feet and going into the water.  When she got wet she just changed her clothes and moved on.
•Nareya was wrestling with being cold and how to get warm. However, she did take off her shoes and socks and went into the water and got more and more brave with how she navigated on the rocks.
•Natalie was just in heaven and when she fell in the water she did not even blink an eye! She just kept going on having fun!
•Anissa was more engaged and delighted then ever  trying out new adventures with the wet ground, big rocks and water all about.
• Eric and Jasper I mentioned above.
We all had a very , very grand time playing with the water, the rocks, climbing over logs, throwing rocks in the water and listening to all the different sounds that come from the different sized rocks and looking for the many, many heart shaped rocks.  Our new Mommy friend found lot’s and everyone else found some or noticed some.
When her daughter got unexpectedly soaked with water Dahlia, Emme, Annissa and Nareya gave her all of their extra clothes.  Eric said his clothes were just too big for her.
When we got back to the bus we bundled them up in blankets and off we went. They were filled with such excitement and joy from the wild wonders of WETNESS!!!!

Rancho San Antonio

We have never been here before this day  and we had such a wonder filled day.  They were all alive and raring to go, well, Eric started slow and actually seemed a bit tired all day.  No worries for that because  we actually did not go far AT ALL!  When we got there we went out to the meadow right within sight of the parking lot.   We went behind some trees and near a big, big compostie type leaf pile, fresh leaves.  We checked it out but, they were ready for snack and such so, that is what we did, found a place to sit and commence….
More rain songs added to our current ones. We continued to sing to the Sky world and ask for Rain to come upon us.  But the question was, does the sky look like rain will come?  What are the clouds doing? Are they changing?
The snack was cheddar bunnie crackers and pretzels and hence we had a story about a Rabbit. You see, Rabbit used to have a very long tail and his front legs were long as sticks and so was his back legs……And ever since that day, that is why the Willow tree has little white puffs of rabbit tail on it in the spring, his front feet are short and he has a split lip. The story from beginning to end 🙂
We played in the big pile of leaves with utter delight. Some remembered that  last week I got buried because I wanted to be in  a house like the Squirrels make and live in that are all up in the tree tops. So they covered and covered and covered me. Last week Aurora wanted to unbury me and this week she wanted to bury me.  But then, after all that burying, I POPPED out!   What a laugh we had.
After eating Bosch began to explore with some after I said” Is there the rabbits tail puffs on that Coyote bush over there?” And off they went.  Eric, Anissa and I caught up with them. We went trekking through the Coyote brush. This was a bit of a challenge for Eric and Anissa, they were a bit scared of the bushes we needed to climb over but WE DID IT! and then we came into Natalie being fully excited and sharing with us about all the Wood Rats nests there! There were at least 4 and big!  We were in a beautiful Bay tree grove.   I have fond memories of Emme’s sister playing right in this place so many years ago being the captain of a Pirate ship and leading all on her boat!
We all wound up moving out of this area and then going to the Coyote Bushes behind this all.  Bosch,Jasper Emme, Natalie and Aurora wound up crawling through the bushes and the rest of us stayed on the outside.  They were actually quite scared to go in.  So, on the outside we made little play fire pits and Nareya made a birthday candle for me. She loves to make birthday candles for people and sing to them along with her favorite song “Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens…” She knows all the words.
When we were all out we were just basking in the sun and checking out the area.  I then introduced them to several games: Coyote and Rabbit and Coyote sneaking up on Rabbit.   Coyote and Rabbit is where there are several rabbits just eating grass, Coyote(s) come by and try to eat them.  If the Rabbit moves then they become a Coyote.  Emme really loved this game because of all the chasing and wanted to play and play.  The rest played for a while and then tuckered out.   Then there was Rabbit who sits with his back turned to the Coyotes. The Coyotes have to sneak up without being heard. If the rabbit hears them rabbit points a finger to the sound and if they point at the person/sound right then they have to go back to the beginning. Anissa really liked this game and none of them could keep from looking at the person. That is the way these intro games go with 3  & 4 year olds!  It was all very fun but alas, we had to get our belongs and make our way home!  So, packing up we did and back to the bus, not far away, we went.   When in the bus they loved reading and looking at their Golden Guide Field books or trying to wake Bosch up from his sleeping and dreaming.
